OutCare Health Receives $7,000 Donation from Foundation for Complex Healthcare Solutions

Indianapolis, IN. December 13, 2017. — The Foundation for Complex Healthcare Solutions donated $7,000 to OutCare Health (outcarehealth.org), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the purpose of providing extensive information and education on LGBTQ healthcare. OutCare recognizes the unique health needs of LGBTQ individuals and connects them with the most appropriate healthcare providers, resources, and events. The organization also strives to better educate medical students, supplement healthcare providers, and energize communities to deliver high-quality, culturally-competent, unbiased healthcare.

OutCare was formed in 2015 to improve the health of the LGBTQ community through a coordinated, multi-level approach to change the healthcare landscape for this population. Key services already put into place in the inaugural years of the organization include: identification of public health services, creation and distribution of educational material, implementation of medical curriculum reform, development and delivery of cultural competency training to healthcare providers, promotion of provider mentorship, and the creation of the innovative OutList—OutCare’s most ambitious endeavor. The OutList is a directory of providers who identify and are certified by OutCare as culturally-competent in the provision of care, treatment, and services of the LGBTQ population.

“Healthcare disparities are apparent and highly prevalent among LGBTQ communities. Health equality requires providers who will impart and advocate for the care, respect, safe space, and cultural competency that LGBTQ people so desperately need,” states Dustin Nowaskie, OutCare’s Founder. “Thanks to the generous donation from the Foundation for Complex Healthcare Solutions, OutCare will now have the resources to expand cultural competency to healthcare providers throughout Indiana and beyond.”

Doug Stratton, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation notes, “Having spent many years in the healthcare industry, I have noticed an alarming lack of attention given to the specific health needs of the LGBTQ and other minority populations. OutCare Health is an exceptional organization aimed at bringing transparency to this cause. The Foundation is honored to support its important initiative. We encourage our supporters to get involved with OutCare and inform their own providers about the organization and the importance of cultural competency in healthcare.”
